Becoming an Outdoors Woman (BOW)
Becoming an Outdoors-Woman (BOW) teaches outdoor skills to women throughout North America. Recently, members of Minnesota BOW joined together for some time on the ice. They had a great turn out with the many weather challenges, which ice anglers thrive on.
This get-together was a family weekend event and was held on Deep Portage ELC in Hackensack, MN. Denise Borenhausen and Kristine Szczech taught the ice fishing seminar using their favorite equipmenttwo Fish Trap Yukons and one Fish trap Pro. The event was attended by 150-200 people.
ABOUT BOW
Beginning in 1991, BOW was established by Christine Thomas, Professor at University of Wisconsin-Steven’s Point. The purpose of the program is to give women the opportunity to learn outdoor skills. The first workshop, held at Treehaven Field Station near Tomahawk, WI, filled to capacity with over 100 participants. Since then, the successful program has become popular in more than 40 states, several Canadian provinces and New Zealand.
This program focuses on the teaching of outdoor skills usually associated with fishing, hunting and other outdoor pursuits. It is designed primarily for women 18 years of age and older. BOW offers activities through half day clinics and weekend workshops.
